A company secretary is presumed to be defined as the 'key managerial personnel in a company. It is a highly esteemed position fan organization. Company Secretary is assumed to play an important role in making decisions on the financial, legal and administrative matters of the Company and to advise the Company on these key matters.
The Company Secretary Examinations are conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) which is under the control of the Government of India.
The CS course, which was conducted in three phases a few years ago, has now undergone some changes in recent times. At the Foundation, Executive, and Professional levels which were the stages in the previous pattern, the Foundation has now been eliminated and replaced with the CS Eligibility Entrance Test (CSEET).
Though, the Candidates who have completed their graduation, CS Foundation Examinations and the CA / CMA Final Examinations are exempted from appearing for the CSEET but will be eligible for admission to the Company Secretary's Course only through the CS Executive Entrance Examination after completing their Plus Two.
After the examinations and the prescribed practical training, one can become a company secretary by gaining membership of the institute.
The Company Secretary is assigned with the responsibility for the administration of corporations such as banks, other financial institutions and various other public sector undertakings. The newly amended the Company Act Provisions in India resulted in the influx of the opportunities for Company Secretaries. There are enough and more opportunities for Company Secretaries abroad. It is also possible for CSs to practice on their own.
