The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) institute, formed in 1904 is the global professional accounting body offering the "Chartered Certified Accountant" qualification. ACCA in India

Most of the ACCA qualified professionals in India are employed with the Big 4s or MNCs. Employers in India have now become aware of ACCA qualification and are hiring them eagerly. Main employers in India for ACCA are Price Waterhouse Coopers, Ernst and Young, Deloitte, KPMG, TATA Communications, Embassy Group, Grant Thornton, etc. CA and ACCA members are increasingly being offered similar job profiles, designation and salary packages.

India is taking another step closer towards globalization by introducing Ind-AS drafted on principles similar to IFRS. ACCA covers IFRS broadly in its syllabus which would definitely give an edge to ACCA members in India

With the presence of many financial KPOs in India, India has become a major outsourcing hub for accounting and financial functions and ACCA qualified professionals are preferred by the employers for handling these functions.

In India, average salary offered to ACCA fresher is between INR 3,50,000 to INR 4,00,000

Course Structure

To qualify as an ACCA member, a candidate will be required to do the following:

  1. Attempt and clear 13 exams (ACCA does provide exemptions in some exams depending upon the candidate's previous qualification)
  2. Record 36 months experience in a relevant role. The candidate can acquire the experience before /during/ after completion of the qualification.
  3. Complete the Ethics and Professional Skills module

The 13 courses and exams of ACCA are divided into three levels: Knowledge, Skills & Professional.

Applied Knowledge Level:

  1. Accountant in Business (AB)
  2. Management Accounting (MA)
  3. Financial Accounting (FA)

Applied Skills Level:

  1. Corporate and Business Law(LW)
  2. Performance Management
  3. Taxation (TX)
  4. Financial Reporting (FR)
  5. Audit and Assurance (AA)
  6. Financial Management (FM)

Strategic professional Level:


  1. Strategic Business Leader(SBL)
  2. Strategic Business Reporting(SBR)

Options: (Any 2)

  1. Advanced Financial Management (AFM)
  2. Advanced Performance Management (APM)
  3. Advanced Taxation (ATX)
  4. Advanced Audit and Assurance (AAA)

Students are awarded a Strategic Professional Certificate when they have successfully completed all the Strategic Professional exams of the ACCA Qualification. These are the two Strategic Professional Essentials exams and any two of the Strategic Professional Options exams.

Note: The Accountant in Business (AB), Management Accounting (MA) and Financial Accounting (FA) exams have the same structure and syllabus as the Foundation-level Diploma exams (FAB, FMA and FFA respectively)

ACCA Applied Skills Exams

A variety of OT Questions , multi task questions and constructed Response Questions using spreadsheets and processing tools.

The 3-hour exam will assess all parts of the syllabus and will test knowledge and some comprehensive or application of this knowledge

When are the ACCA exams held?

ACCA has a flexible study approach.

ACCA has two types of computer based exams.

  1. On-demand CBEs : AB-LW: These exams can be taken at any time of the year.
  2. Session CBEs: PM-FM : These exams are held in four exam sessions: March, June, September and December.
  3. Strategic professional paper Based exams: Essentials and 2 options: These exams are held in four exam sessions: March, June, September and December.
  4. Strategic Professional CBE: Introducing from March 2021.

Exam Entry deadline for December 2020 Exam Session:

  1. Early entry closes 10 August 2020
  2. Standard Entry closes 2 November 2020
  3. Late Entry closes 9 November 2020

  4. Exam Entry Deadline for March 2021 Exam Session:

  5. Early Entry closes 16 November 2020
